Classes for Peewees (ages 4-7) and Kids (ages 8-10)

Fun and exciting martial arts classes await your child at Karate West in Fort Collins. In our martial arts classes for kids, we teach discipline, self-respect, develop character, boost confidence, and promote fitness. Peewee classes for ages 4-7 offer a maximum of individual attention from instructors and work with smaller bits of curriculum material at a time, using games to develop skills, changing activities frequently, for greater success with children with short attention spans. Students usually start with 1 class per week, eventually working up to 2 classes per week. Peewee classes are each 45 minutes long. Classes for kids ages 8 -10 and youth 11-12 add more variety of activities, work on more skills, increase expectations for mastery of curriculum material, and include a greater focus on character development. Having fun in class is still a primary goal, with kids finding more and more enjoyment from the greater successes they have as a result of their hard work. Youth classes include a higher level of self-defense drills, and greater expectations for individual responsibility and cooperative work. These classes are 45 minutes long. Attendance 2x per week is recommended for normal progression.

Classes for Youth (ages 11-12) and Teens

Youth classes include a higher level of self-defense drills, and greater expectations for individual responsibility and cooperative work. These classes are 45 minutes long. Attendance 2x per week is recommended for normal progression. Teen class requires and respects the greater maturity of the students, introducing more of the adult curriculum, and encouraging greater individual creativity. Teen class steps up the level of expectations for personal responsibility and greater accomplishment, while allowing opportunities for socialization and interaction with peers. Some teen classes are 45 minutes, when combined with the youth, but most are one hour long, and are often combined with the adults.

Classes for Adults and Teens

Karate West curriculum for adults is thorough and demanding, though it is taught in a gradual progression which allows anyone to be successful if he/she desires to and applies the effort to do so. Belt progression requires and enables the student to become a well-rounded martial artist, developing skills in the art, sport, and self-defense aspects. Each student learns his/her own strengths and weaknesses, and may eventually specialize, but must first develop a solid base in each aspect. Our students are encouraged to be life-long learners who also enjoy sharing their learning with others, and using their skills for good. Most students attend 2 classes per week, each one hour long. Adult classes are offered over the noon hour and in the evenings.

Fitness Kickboxing

Karate West Fitness Kickboxing is taught by trained martial artists, so you learn how to kick and punch correctly as well as having fun and getting fit. Each class is one hour long, and we do kicking and punching both in the air and at heavy bags and/or focus mitts, as well as doing some calisthenics. Music is pumping and we all have a great time while getting worked out, stretched, and strengthened.
